One-Club Man Gary Neville

Gary Neville left school at the age of 16 when he joined Manchester United to playe for their highly successful youth team. Making his first appearance for Manchester United against Russian side Torpedo Moscow in 1992, Neville has always been loyal to the club he has supported since his childhood days.

Eventually replacing the injuried Paul Parker, Neville made his league debut for United two years later on 8 May 1994 in a 00 draw against Coventry City at Old Trafford. As a right full back, the Bury born skirmisher has made over 500 first class appearances for Manchester United during his 18 years at the club, winning eight Premier League titles, three FA Cups, two League Cups and one European Cup. Neville has scored a total of seven goals in his 16 years as a Manchester United player the first coming against Middlesbrough on May 5, 1997. Gary Neville was made Manchester United captain following the departure of midfielder Roy Keane in December 2005 and he became the fifth Old Trafford skipper to lift the Premier League title 18 months later. The Manchester United cornerstone is one of a rare breed of player who has spent his entire footballing career at the same club. Not suprisingly, the vastly experienced defender is fifth on the most exclusive Manchester United all time appearances list.

Serving his country for many years, Neville has gained a total of 85 caps during a long career as an England international which started in 1995 when he was called up for a friendly against Japan. His younger brother Phil Neville also played for Manchester United and the two brothers were team mates at both club and international level until Phil decided to move on to Everton in 2005. Gary Neville also has a long standing relationship with the Mediterranean island of Malta. He has on several occasions in the past described Malta as his second home and he has been an official tourism ambassador for the island since 2001. He works with Air Malta to promote the country which he has visited on a regular basis since he was a child. In return for his services the Malta Tourism Authority and Air Malta sponsor the Gary Neville Soccer School on the island.

“Sir Alex Ferguson is the most successful manager Manchester United have ever had. It is ridiculous for people to suggest he leaves. Who do they want to replace him? Ron Atkinson, Tommy Docherty?”

Whether The New Coach Will Bring Surprise to Lazio?

In this June, Serie A Lazio club officially announced the signing with the new coach. The Bosnia Petkovic will replace Rhea to serve as the new coach of Lazio from next season.

48-year-old Bosnia Petkovic previously did not coach the five leagues. As player, he spent his time mostly in the Swiss League. He began his coaching career from 1997, when he was Bellinzona and later he also coached in the Lugano and Young Boys team Bern. In 2008, he led Bellinzona to win the runner-up of the Swiss Cup; and one year later he led the Young Boys Bern team to win the runner-up of the league, which are his most proud achievements. Before he took over Lazio, this March he served as the transition coach in Sion team.

After the new coach was finalized, Zarate who was on loan to Inter Milan last season also expressed his hope to continue to stay in Lazio. He said: “It is very clear that I belong to Lazio. And the Lazio shirt is my choice. If Lotito president wants me to stay, I would be very pleased. I will return to Lazio with my best state. I left for Inter Milan because I did not get well with the coach; going to Inter Milan is my best choice.” And now with the joining of the new coach, Zarate changed his attitude: “I am sure that Petkovic will bring the attacking football to Lazio and I believe he can do a good job,” Zarate said, “I also like the Lazio fans. Many people know me when I walk on the streets. They are just like my friends. I am eager to wear the Lazio football shirts.”

In the past two seasons, Lazio former coach Rhea led the team to harvest the qualification for the European League for two consecutive seasons but had always missed the Champions League. When the team was eliminated by Atletico Madrid in the European League, Rhea proposed to resign but temporarily left under the retention of the players and officials. But at the end of the 2011/12 season, Rhea made up his mind to quit the job in Blue Eagle regardless of the Lazio’s president Lotito’s repeated ask.

Indeed, Rhea did a good job when he was in Lazio, but no one can compel him to stay. We hope the new coach can bring surprise to the Lazio club as well as the fans.

AFL Ladder – An Important History

The Australian Football League abbreviated for AFL is a highly followed game with fans from across the globe. The history of the game can well be traced to 1896 when eight teams decided to part ways from the Victorian Football Association (VFA)so as to form the Victorian Football League (VFL). Dates prove that VFA came to picture as a formed body in 1877 however the organized Australian Football came only be played even before the first official game took place which was between Scotch College and Melbourne Grammar in 1858.

Gradually sports fans increased and so did the popularity which lead to the expansion of VFL into Western Australian and Queensland which also stand historic to the inculcation of the West Coast Eagles and the Brisbane bears. With this movement three teams were based outside the Victorian segment which is why the VFL was further renamed to being known as the Australian Football League (AFL) in the 1990.

It was one of the historic moves which also forced that the most successful South Australian team, Port Adelaide also joined the AFL. This was followed with the historical moment when in 1996 the 100th season of VFL/AFL football marked into the documented books, this lead to an entire season of celebrations for all teams and fans across Australia.

Another historic moment came in 1997 when Adelaide won the first premiership which was inspired by the inclusion of cross town rivals and again in 1998 they Adelaide won back-to-back matches.

It was in 2000 that the final system was given a newer look which on a whole brought more uncertainty and complexity where the team number remained at eight however AFL requested for match ups from week one not to be repeated in week three. Despite all the confusion the changed system still remains the most preferred system of AFL.

No matter what the changes the AFL remains the heart and soul of the Australian nation. It is one game which every Australian follows with dedication. No matter which the team many people prefer to watch it till the end.

Gerrrard Has a Deep Loyalty to Liverpool

This January, Gerrard signed a renewal three-year contract with Liverpool; it means that the 31-year-old Gerrard may have been working in Liverpool till he bids farewell to his football boots. He said: “Maybe, I will become the ambassador of Liverpool, but who knows what will happen in the next 2-3 years. it cannot be said, maybe I can receive a quote.”

In the eyes of many neutral fans, it is not good for Gerrard that he always works in Liverpool. As the captain, the most brilliant he won along with Liverpool is the Champions League trophy they won in 2005 in the Istanbul. As one of the spokesmen of Adidas predator football boots, he makes such football boots known to the fans in Liverpool even in the world.

After all, he has always played in Anfield, which will means that he will always miss the Premier Champion in his career. The former England coach Eriksson had publicly called for Gerrard to leave Liverpool, but Gerrard responded: “I will not blame for my club. I will not complain the club, because the club changed the boss, Benitez soled Alonso, Javier Mascherano moved to Barcelona. I will only blame that I failed to seize the opportunity. Liverpool once ranked at the second of the league; that season we should have won the champion if we were not tied by the opponents in the 2-3 stupid games. I have to take the responsibility, as I was one of the team.”

“When you are blamed, your firstly should look around yourself. In the time of football, it is not so easy to criticize others. Of course, I do not really have the opportunity to get the league title, which will be a pity in my football career. But I will not regret since I have made up my mind. And, I won the best champion trophy in Liverpool. There are many players who won the Premiership title but failed to clinch the Champions League trophy.”

“As the captain of the England team, I have been on behalf of the ‘Three Lions’ to participate in more than 100 games. I am still the captain of Liverpool and I win many honors. 90% of my career has reached the expectation, in the next 2-3 years, I will still have expatiation, but also full of desire for victory.” Gerrrard said.

2012 European Championships Groups Preview

The draw for the 2012 European Championships has been made and there have been some very interesting ties thrown up. The tournament takes place next summer and will be co-hosted by Poland and Ukraine. The first time a major football tournament has been hosted by Eastern European countries.

Group A

Is probably the weakest group at the Championships, it contains co-hosts Poland, 2004 Champions Greece, Russia and 1996 finalists Czech Republic. Looking at the group home advantage should place a massive factor in this group with Poland being confident of coming through this group. The next spot should be between Russia and Czech Republic. Greece will do well to escape this group, however if they can replicate the form they showed at Euro 2004 then who knows.

Group B

Is probably the group of death containing some real talent. World Cup finalists Holland, Denmark, a very strong looking Germany, and Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal. This group is very tough to call but one team that look like they are already out before the tournament begins is Denmark. They clearly have the weakest squad of the four teams and if I had a million free bets I wouldn’t put them on the Denmark team.

Group C

Contains reigning European and World Champions Spain who will feel confident of escaping a group containing, 2006 World Champions Italy, Republic of Ireland and Croatia. This group looks a formality with Spain and Italy coming through, however the Irish and Croatia will feel they still have a good chance of causing an upset.

Group D

This group has co-hosts Ukraine who will be battling it out with Sweden, England and former World Champions France. This group is very interesting as England will see themselves as slight favourites to come through as group winners, however Sweden and France are putting England sides under pressure and will fancy their chances of causing an England side without Wayne Rooney some serious trouble.

These groups have proved very interesting but reigning champions will still remain favourites going into the tournament next year. Germany will consider themselves the second best team in the competition and they have the squad to back that up. England will be a good outside tip but without their best player Wayne Rooney may find it difficult to get out of the group. It’s likely we may have a surprise package like we did in 2004, however if was a betting man I would stick with Spain who boost a side full of talent and players that have the experience to go on and win the competition again and be the very first nation to retain the European Championship.

Take a Kick at Football Betting

How often on a Saturday afternoon, after all the games have been played, has there been that little niggling voice which said “I thought that team would win” or “I expected it would be a draw” but that’s all they were, remarks to yourself.

If you are interested in the outcome of football games, then perhaps now is the time to think about actually placing a bet what you think may be the result. Unfortunately, that’s not really satisfactory. Although many of us are able to make educated guesses from time to time, in order to increase the odds in the favor of the punter, it’s worth using the services of a firm which provides, for a fee, “reliable” football tips.

There isn’t a footy tipster around who can guarantee to provide the right outcome to every game of football. What they can provide, however, are football predictions which take the results of previous games, and applies them to the next game and the teams which are playing.

There are many different firms which all offer their tipping services. Their prices vary considerably – and it isn’t necessarily the most expensive tipster which gets the best results. There are several routes to finding a football tipster. It is always best, if you are able, to ask friends or work colleagues whom you know like to place a wager, if they can recommend a tipster or tipping service which they have tried out.

The sporting newspapers always have tipsters giving opinions about the results they expect from various sports, and many of them have private betting services which the enthusiastic amateur punter can join. Prices vary from a few pounds each month to services which provide a considerable amount of research and cost around one hundred pounds every month.

It is essential to remember that no matter how expensive or good your chosen footy tipster is you are highly unlikely to become a millionaire after a few favorable results. If you are fortunate, at the end of the year, the wins and losses may have canceled each other out – but you have enjoyed the experience and it adds to the existing interest in the game of football.

Always start with a “betting bank” which is a pot of money from which you place your bets. This can be around one hundred pounds, as long as you only bet around five pounds each time. As the pot increases, hopefully on a fairly regular basis, the amount being placed on the result of a game can be increased. If there is a losing spell, reduce the amount of the bet until you return to the original position.

Whatever the amount of the bet, don’t ever spend more money that you can afford to lose. Don’t let the bet spoil the enjoyment of the game. Betting on the outcome should be something extra, but nothing which creates panic if you find that you’ve forgotten to place the bet. Have some fun with betting on the results of the football, but don’t let it become too important.

Champions League Grand Finale Countdown

Manchester United and Barcelona will be disputing the crown of Europe this Saturday at the legendary Wembley stadium.

Barcelona faces its third UEFA Champions League final in six years, and the first one without striker Samuel Eto’o, who played a vital role in conquering the title in those two previous occasions by opening the score for the Catalonians. In the 2006 final against Arsenal he scored the equalizer that made it possible for them to come from behind and win the championship. And in the second one disputed in 2009 versus Manchester United he gave his team the lead during a first half that the Red Devils had dominated. With Eto’o gone it is Lionel Messi who is called to make the difference this Saturday at Wembley, when Barcelona will defy Manchester United once again.

The Red Devils already suffered him once in 2009, when Messi scored the second goal in Barcelona’s 2-0 victory over them. In an effort to stop him, Manchester United coach Sir Alex Ferguson is carefully working in his starting 11 for Saturday, and claims to have five or six effective line ups to neutralize Messi and company.

It is known that there are only two ways to neutralize Barcelona: through constant fouls that prevents their game from being fluid, or by keeping the ball away from them. And Man U has key players that can perform both roles effectively.

It is in the midfield where this battle will be fought, as it is from here that Xavi and Iniesta control the rhythm of the game for Barcelona, and involve the rest of their teammates in the process by always being an option for them in case they can’t find who to pass the ball to. Not to forget Busquets’ silent role of recuperating the ball possession from the rival, and the intermittent associations of Messi with them participating in the playmaking.

One of the options that Ferguson is reviewing is whether to align a double pivot with Carrick and Scholes to stop Barcelona’s playmakers or to go sacrifice one of them, most likely Scholes, to give its place to South Korean Park Ji-Sung, who is more of a winger, and could exchange roles with Ryan Giggs on the left side.

From what we saw on Man U’s last games of the season in England, if Ferguson chooses a more offensive scheme the midfield would be composed of Park, Giggs, Carrick, Valencia, with Rooney in between them and Chicharito, who would be the reference in attack.

While Ferguson decides how to confront this final -his third in four seasons- Barcelona’s coach Joseph Guardiola is doubtful about whom the starter left defender will be. He is working on two options: Carles Puyol or Eric Abidal, both recently recovered from their respective injuries.

Despite the two of them being part of the usual starters in the defense along Gerard Pique and Daniel Alves, the risk from then suffering a relapse from their injuries in such a big game is what keeps Guardiola from putting the two of them at the same time. And with Javier Mascherano doing a great defensive job along with Pique, Barcelona’s coach doesn’t even have the need to risk them.

Both teams are still uncertain about their starting eleven, but what there are no doubts about is regarding them being the best squads in Europe at press time, and a good example of that is not only that the two of them reached the Champions League final, but also that both won their respective domestic leagues: Man u the English Premier League and Barcelona Spanish La Liga.

These are the champions.
